Most people in the communities we currently
work in cannot read or write English nor their mother tongue. Hence
our communication of the gospel is mostly done through translators,
audio, and audio-visual means. Enrolment levels in schools are low,
especially among girls, as parents, who are mostly uneducated
themselves do not prioritize education. We believe supporting and
encouraging education, both formal and informal will help break the
cycle of poverty in these communities. Indigenes will also be
empowered to read, study, and understand God’s word for themselves,
especially in their mother tongue or heart language. The following
are some of the ways we are encouraging education in the communities:
Through our teaching in the schools, we offer
counselling and encouragement to students to be motivated to
prioritise learning
We engage parents and enlighten them about the
importance of their children’s education
We provide incentives for girls with good
attendance records at the end of each term
We offer scholarships to students who are
passionate to continue their education but whose parents cannot
afford to support them.
We are constructing a library facility which
will double as an after school centre for children in a cluster of
communities.
We hope to begin adult literacy classes for
parents in the home group setting to aid their ability to read and
write their mother tongue, and also to read the bible in their heart
language.
