The months of August and September went by so fast. As I mentioned in the July edition, there is an enormous need for the gospel, literacy, and healthcare among the Konkomba people group. Our co-missionaries, Godwin and Timothy had been engaging the Konkomba indigenes before we met them in the middle of this year.
One of the urgent needs is the lack of a school for hundreds of children in the villages where our co-missionaries are engaged in evangelism and discipleship. It became imperative for me to make a trip to meet with the chiefs and opinion leaders in some of these communities where we want to start basic numeracy and literacy lessons for the children, with the help of our co-missionaries and a few Senior High School graduates. The purpose of the visit was to finalize a plan with them for the schools to commence mid-October 2020. The exciting thing is that lessons will begin with learning to read and write in their mother tongue before they move to the English language.
At the beginning of August 2020, Godwin and Timothy planted a community fellowship (Church) in a Konkomba village called Majafu. The LORD graced their effort with 7 men, 24 women, and 54 children; all new believers as first members of the fellowship. What a joy that day will be to meet all tribes, colours, and tongues, singing and rejoicing before our LORD Jesus Christ in eternity.
New Mission Year, Annual Retreat, Training and Induction
Our annual retreat to usher in the 2020/2021 mission year ended on Sunday, September 27 in Accra. The LORD provided graciously, so we managed to transport all our co-missionaries, both old and new to Accra for ten days of fellowship, prayer and fasting, bonding, training and equipping for the coming year. Some of the training we received included Muslim Evangelism, The Missionary’s Personal Spiritual Growth, Team Building, and Conflict Management, Christ-like Discipleship and Disciple-Making, Child Evangelism, among others. It was an awesome experience having all 12 co-missionaries together praying, breaking bread, studying God’s word together, sharing mission experiences, and remembering God’s goodness over the past year.
This is an answer to prayer and we give God all the praise because at the beginning of the 2019/2020 mission year we had five full-time missionaries and trusted God to double the number in one year. Although a couple of our friends from last year have decided to move on, the LORD sent more labourers to make up the number we prayed for.
Prayer Needs
Please pray:
for the current EFM missionary team, that they will work together in love and unity, making full use of the grace that has been imparted to them in this retreat.
that our partnerships with other Christian organizations, especially those who facilitated sessions at our retreat will bear lasting fruit to God’s glory.
for wisdom for us, as we lead and partner with a larger team, that all our decisions and mission initiatives will be God-glorifying and eternity focused.
for the Konkomba education project, that it will be an avenue for the children to obtain the foundational literacy they need to engage meaningfully with society in future.
